Depending on whom you believe Maria Carey was born either in 1969 or 1970. IMDB, says she was born on March 27, 1969, and Mariah says she was born in 1970.

*Her father, Alfred, was an African-American aeronautical engineer from Venezuela.
*Her mother, Patricia, was an Irish-American opera singer and vocal coach.
*When Carey was 3 years old, her parents divorced.
*In 1987, she graduated high school and moved to Manhattan.
*At a Columbia Record party, she met Tommy Mottola and handed him a demo of her singing.
*Mottola listened to the demo in his car on the way home, loved what he heard, and went back to the party to talk to Carey.
*In 1990, her first album, Mariah Carey, was released, becoming a huge hit with four hit singles.
